Coming Up For Air

Finally able to see a bit of daylight after being in the dark for a bit. I've been in the thick, tangled forest of school and work.

I am enjoying myself - the college experience is one I can appreciate more, given that I'm older than the average student, than I could have if I attended when I was younger.

I don't have to worry about fitting in - I don't and it's perfectly fine. Cool even.

I don't have the self esteem issues a lot of the younger students seem to have - I have a confidence that I've bought through happiness and heartache.

I don't abuse time - achieving "middle age" makes one aware of every tick of the clock.

It is a privilege to be able to go to college. Though the work load is sometimes daunting, time
has become a precious commodity (as if it wasn't before - now I'm more aware of how precious it is) and I am realizing how ignorant I am . . .

This is an exhilarating experience.

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I started school again and am at times overwhelmed, but then it is easier for me because I've only been out a short time.

There is a woman getting the same dual grad degree as I am here, she has been out of school for twenty or more years. I've had coffee with her a couple of times and she is loving it .

Thanks as always for your comment, Cooper. I think there's a special place in Valhalla for those of us willing to brave academia once again.

Harriett, this happened quick. Congratulations! Even though I am older, I have been going to school every year! (addicted to learning!) I will take you up on your offer to tour the college
and get together, whenever we can agree to meet. Call or email me, I lost all my phone #'s when my phone died. Jeanee

Hi Harriett,
Thanks for stopping by to visit and kudos to you for resuming your education. I went back to grad school as an adult and like you enjoyed it a lot. A few years ago when I was on My Space, used to visit a blog that a mature woman kept about her progress through a PhD program. She had been an olympic swimmer when she was young and brought her positive values and capacity for disciplined thinking to class with her. If I can remember the day of her blog I will leave it. Good luck.
